Dr. Tom Hensley
Dr. Tom Hensley instructs courses in the Pierre Laclede Honors College and the College of Education. He serves as the faculty advisor for the Student Missouri National Education Association and was a coordinator of clinical experiences in the Office of Advising, Professional Experiences & Certification. Previously, Tom was Director of the Office of Special Programs where he shared responsibility for the Advanced Credit Program and the St. Louis Storytelling Festival.
At the UMSL, Tom has earned two Masters of Education Degrees (Secondary Education and Secondary Administration), advanced administrative certification, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Tom's undergraduate degree in social studies education is from Southeast Missouri State University. Prior to 1999, he taught for several years as an adjunct professor at UMSL while serving in several teaching and administrative positions in the Rockwood School District. Tom was the founding principal of Rockwood Summit High School until his retirement in 1998, when he became the Associate Director of Leadership Development for the Cooperating School Districts of St. Louis. Tom has conducted leadership workshops in Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, and Oklahoma and has served as a facilitator of leadership programs for Missouri's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
