Nancy Gleason
Since the early 1970’s, Nancy
Gleason hasn’t strayed too far from the University of Missouri—St.
Louis. Born and raised in St. Louis, Nancy attended first St. Louis
University for two years and transferred to UM-St. Louis where she
earned her undergraduate degree. She taught high school for six
years before starting her family. By 1983, Nancy missed the classroom
and returned to UM-St. Louis to do graduate work in English. While
earning her M.A., she enjoyed being a Teaching Assistant for the
English Department. Once she earned her M.A., she began work at
UM-St. Louis as a full-time Lecturer in English. At home in the
classroom and in her office working with students, Nancy won Lecturer
of the Year in the College of Arts and Sciences in l993, and in
1999 she was awarded the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence
in Teaching. That same year, she became Director of Writing for
the Pierre Laclede Honors College, a position she enjoys very much.
In August 2004, Nancy added the responsibilites of Assistant Dean
of the Honors College to her duties as writing director. In September
2005, Nancy was appointed Associate Dean of the college and will
continue to serve as Director of Writing. Though she is busy with
her duties at the college, she enjoys the work and the wonderful
students. Outside of her work at the Honors College at UM-St. Louis,
Nancy loves time at home with her family and community work at her
church.
