Dean Robert Bliss
Bob Bliss received his BA from the University of Pennsylvania and his MA and PhD from the University of Wisconsin. In 1969 he decamped to England where, after a year at Oxford, he spent 27 years in the history department at Lancaster University where he was, from time to time, Principal of Grizedale College, chair of the School of Independent Studies and director of American Studies. He came to UMSL as Honors College dean in 1997. The author of a prize-winning study of 17th-century English and American politics (entitled Revolution and Empire), Bob teaches "around the Honors curriculum," most often in American Studies subjects. He also advises business majors and interviews many Honors College applicants.
Bob enjoys reading, canoeing, and fishing, in solitude or with others, and he does a lot of exercise (mainly cycling and running) which he is learning to enjoy. He likes very much to talk with students, and for this purpose is easily found in his office, (room P1b, next to the common room), or at x6874, or at firstname.lastname@example.org If he's in, his door is open.
