Academic Advising

Central to the mission of the Pierre Laclede Honors College is the success of each student in fulfilling his/her individual intellectual and vocational aims. We feel that good academic advice is an important contributor to that success, and especially that it can save the student much wasted time and money. Our advisors strive to enroll you in the best courses to further your goals. They may try to keep you from enrolling for too many hours, from working too many hours, or from socializing too much or participating in too many extra-curricular activities. You don’t have to listen to them, but it may be to your advantage to do so.

All Honors students are assigned to one of the Honors College faculty as an academic advisor based on the student’s major field. Honors College advisors supplement advice offered through University Advising and their major departments. Your Honors College advisor will monitor your progress through DARS, register you for your courses, and when you near Graduation, will oversee the completion of your Intent to Graduate Form, culminating in your receipt of the Honors College Certificate.

Meeting regularly with your advisor affords you an opportunity to get to know a faculty member well and to obtain quality counseling and mentoring from someone with direct experience of the program and on the campus. Your advisor can also be a valuable conduit to scholar development opportunities and other enriching educational experiences.
