Executive-Trustee Leadership Academy

The Nonprofit Management and Leadership Program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, in association with the St. Louis Nonprofit Services Consortium, came together to create the Nonprofit Executive – Trustee Leadership Academy.  Made possible by funding from the Kellogg Foundation, this program offered a combination of education and technical assistance not available anywhere else in the nation – all aimed at building the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations in our metropolitan region.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Effective, vibrant nonprofit organizations are essential to our region’s future.  Yet few opportunities are available for staff executives and board leaders of nonprofits to come together in a program devoted exclusively to their individual and organizational development. St. Louis was proud to conduct such a program, with the following objectives:

  • Help nonprofit organizations develop their effectiveness in fund-raising and other resource development, in board building and governance, and in staff executive-board leadership
  • Enable staff executives and board leaders from the same organization to engage in an integrated, sustained series of seminar, project, and mentoring activities aimed at strengthening their organization’s effectiveness
  • Enable those staff executives and board leaders to:
  • Learn with a team of top-notch instructors who blend academic and practical knowledge in leading and governing nonprofits
  • Assess their own organization’s strengths and limitations with regard to fund-raising and board building, and use that assessment to work with a mentor for a prolonged period to improve their fund-raising or board performance
  • Share knowledge and experience with staff executives and board leaders from a select group of other nonprofit organizations in an on-going network
