V. Dean's Report
Graduate Admissions has moved from Woods Hall to the Millenium Student
Center. Their offices can be accessed through the main office of undergraduate
Admissions.
Preliminary figures indicate that Graduate enrollment has increased by 9%.
Because there was no new mission enhancement money as anticipated, funds will be tight for the upcoming fellowships. Of $1,032,000 available for tuition remission and fellowships, we've already spent about $400,000 on tuition for the Fall semester alone. If we keep at that pace, about $850,000 of the monies available would be used for tuition remission.
VI. Other business
The Graduate School is in the process of producing a Graduate School
Brochure which would be used in a mass mailing and at Graduate Fairs. The
Chancellor has agreed to pay for the expenses.
Dr. Arshadi is forming an ad-hoc Graduate School/Office of Research Advisory Committee.
Dr. Jones expressed concerns that an ad-hoc committee would be established when there are already committees in place for that very purpose. The Graduate Council and Senate committees are elected by the faculty and should be used to advise administrators. Dr. Arshadi agreed and said that he will also use Graduate Council as a forum for faculty advice.
There being no other business, the meeting adjourned at 2:42 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
David Rose
Secretary/Vice Chairperson
