
Sandra
I. Diamond is the St. Louis Area Coordinator for Kids Voting Missouri,
a program in which students study the candidates and issues in the classroom
and then vote with their parents at official polling places on election
day.
Ms. Diamond
came to the University with an extensive background in community and media
relations, curriculum development, and educational program management.
Just prior to joining Kids Voting in 1999, Ms. Diamond spent eight years
as an educational consultant and manager in the healthcare field.
Ms. Diamond
began her career in the Hazelwood School District, where for nine years
she taught high school civics, coached tennis and varsity softball, advised
the pep club, and directed the Youth in Government program.
In 1978,
Sandy joined the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as the Newspapers in Education
(NIE) Coordinator, with the responsibility for marketing and promoting
NIE to educators and parents throughout the bi-state area. During Sandy's
13-year tenure, the number of schools participating in NIE rose from 100
to more than 4,000.
Ms. Diamond's
work in civic education has been recognized by the International Reading
Association, the U.S. Congressional Record, the Missouri Bar, the Metropolitan
Bar Association of St. Louis, and A World of Difference.
Ms. Diamond
is active in a variety of community organizations, including the March
of Dimes, the Mental Health Association, and the Alliance for the Mentally
Ill. An 18-year resident of University City, she is a 1969 graduate of
the University of Missouri-Columbia and earned her M.Ed. with honors from
the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1973.
