FLL 4399 is designed to prepare high school teachers of Spanish
to incorporate the teaching of culture into classroom instruction. You will be introduced to
the relationship of language and culture, examine the role of culture in a language classroom,
and discuss methods of teaching culture in the language classroom. In Barcelona, you will
gather artifacts that will be used to develop a culture-based teaching unit.
- Three graduate hours will require some online and classroom
instruction prior to the trip to Spain.
- Advanced Credit teachers may use ACP teacher scholarships to
offset the cost of the credit option.
- Dr. Deborah Baldini will provide instruction for this course and
will lead the trip to Barcelona.
Highlights:
- Tour Gaudi’s architectural masterpieces: Sagrada Familia, Casa
Batlló, Casa Milá.
- Visit the Picasso Museum.
- Tour the Miró Foundation.
- Take a walk through a Spanish vineyard.
- Spend 7 nights in a four-star hotel (double occupancy).
- Included are daily breakfast, two dinners, three museums, and a
day trip to Spain’s most impressive winery.

Deborah Baldini, associate
dean and teaching professor, has
taught Spanish at UM-St. Louis
for 25 years. A member of
ACTFL, she has taught a number
of courses for teachers of foreign
languages, focusing on
methodology, technology, and
the Standards for Foreign
Language Learning. Dr. Baldini
has studied and lived in Spain
for a number of years and will
share her knowledge of Spanish
art, architecture, culture, and
history for this study tour of the
fascinating port city of
Barcelona and the Catalan
countryside.
