Teachers have the option of earning three graduate credit hours by registering in an online companion course:

Foreign Language and Literatures 4399

Standards-Based Foreign Language Instruction:
Making Use of the ACTFL Standards for Foreign Language
Learning by Integrating Culture into the Spanish Classroom

This course is designed to prepare high-school teachers of Spanish to integrate the ACTFL Standard 2: "Cultures" into classroom instruction. Teachers in the course will be introduced to the relationship of language and culture using sociolinguistic and educational perspectives, will examine the role of culture in a language classroom, will discuss methods of teaching culture in the language classroom, and will travel to Barcelona, Spain to gather artifacts that will be used to develop a culture-based teaching unit. Teachers in this course will acquire knowledge about the relationship between culture and language, language acquisition, and the ACTFL Standard 2: "Cultures."
