Community Partnership Project:
Community Tool Kit - Planning and Visioning
Planning and Visioning
Planning used to be an activity entrusted only to professionals. However, as community groups are becoming more savvy and developing more skills, they are initiating planning processes. Community-based planning is a powerful tool for any neighborhood organization to build relationships and to develop power.
The important thing to remember about community-based planning is that the process (i.e. the activity, relationships, and knowledge built during the planning process) is far more important than the document that summarizes the gorals and strategies. The written document is important, but if it is not the result of an interactive process among community people, chances are it will sit on the shelf and gather dust.
The Planning and Visioning Tool box holds several tools that guide a group through a community-based planning process that engages all community members. Use these tools in order to have a successful planning and visioning process with your group.
