Much has been written about the challenges that face urban African-American males, but little has been said about the realities of young women in the urban environment. How does the physical condition of a neighborhood heighten the risk for violence against adolescent girls? What perceptions exist among youth about the risk of violence in their own neighborhood? What can a neighborhood do to improve the safety of its adolescent residents?
Join us on Wednesday, April 2, at 3:00 p.m. for a panel discussion on "Neighborhood Conditions and Gender Inequalities: Impact on the Safety of Adolescent Girls in our Communities." The panel will present research relating neighborhood conditions to the increased risk of violence against adolescent girls and discuss the impact of well-established neighborhood networks and social services.
