Faculty Resources
The Community Partnership Project provides support for faculty in connecting with community resources and designing community-based learning and research experiences.
The Community Partnership Project also administers the Urban Extension Grant program, established to facilitate linkages between the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus and University of Missouri Extension and to support program development addressing urban needs. Grant resources are available to faculty in the following areas:

The following projects were funded in 2007:
- The 12th annual What Is a City? Conference: Urban Catastrophe and Recovery, sponsored by the UM-St. Louis Center for the Humanities and University of Missouri Extension. The annual What Is a City? Conference examines the structure and social environment of cities and their effects on social and cultural diversity.
- Community Building Fellowship Program, designed to provide financial support as well as a unique educational and academic program experience to graduate students committed to pursuing careers in community development in the nonprofit and/or public sectors.
- School Counselor Ongoing Partnership and Education (SCOPE) Project, providing training seminars for St. Louis area school counselors on issues related to cultural competency and crisis intervention.
- Missouri Statewide Conference for Nonprofit Organizations, bringing together Missouri nonprofit and philanthropic organizations from across the state and sector.
- Meeting of the Waters Symposium, linking the University and numerous local, state, and national organizations to discuss and experience the Missouri-Mississippi River confluence area.
- Next Chapter Book Club, a book club for adolescents and adults with intellectual disabilities.
- Exploring the Wal-Mart Model, exploring the impact of Wal-Mart on economic development, families and communities.
- Investigating the Components of a Comprehensive School Reform Model, supporting the expansion of Caring School Community program in the Bayless and Northwest School Districts. (See the Center for Character & Citizenship in the UM-St. Louis College of Education.)
Student Resources
Students interested in connecting with St. Louis communities as part of their learning experience at UMSL can contact the Community Partnership Project to explore possibilities. The Community Partnership Project maintains relationships with and serves as a liaison for a variety of communities throughout the St. Louis region and can identify a learning experiences suitable for practicum and internship opportunities, as well as graduate assistantships, independent study courses and volunteer opportunities.
UMSL students are currently working with faculty and Community Partnership Project staff as part of the Affton Community Partnership, a two-year grant funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Students from Social Work and Public Policy Administration are working with the Affton Community Betterment Association and staffing the Task Force on new Americans.
