High school juniors and seniors with a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) are eligible to enroll in Advanced Credit courses. The signature of a high school counselor or teacher is required to verify eligibility (class year and GPA).
High school sophomores may take foreign language courses by meeting one of the following requirements:
- Have an overall GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and GPA of 3.5 in the foreign language sequence taken prior to enrollment in foreign language courses with UMSL designation 1001.
- Score at 90th percentile or above on the PSAT, PLAN, SAT, or ACT test.
The University's Board of Curators determines the education fee per credit hour. The Advanced Credit Program fee is about one-third of the fee for regular undergraduate courses on campus. Fee amounts for 2007-2008 are projected to be $54 for each credit hour but are subject to change.
A billing statement will be mailed to the student as part of the registration process. All fees are due and payable as directed on the student’s monthly billing statement. A minimum payment option is available and is due as communicated on the monthly billing statement. Fees must be paid in full by November 1, 2007 (fall semester) and by April 1, 2008 (spring semester). Students who have not paid by the deadline dates will be dropped for nonpayment.
A 1% monthly finance charge will be assessed on the balance of any unpaid account after the payment due date. Finance charges are always assessed on the unpaid balance that has been billed after the payment due date; therefore, it is to the advantage of the student to avoid finance charges by paying the account in full. If a student chooses to make a partial payment, a finance charge will be assessed on the remaining unpaid balance at the rate of 1% per month.
All student accounts will be subject to a late fee of $10 when payment is not received by the scheduled due date as communicated on the student’s monthly billing statement. If the minimum payment or billed balance due is paid on or before the scheduled due date, as it appears on the student’s monthly billing statement, no late fees will apply.
Payment of fees can be made by mail using the mail-in coupon and envelope provided with the billing statement. The University accepts payment by check, money order, or MasterCard or Discover credit card. Payment also can be made in person at the service windows of the Cashier’s office, 285 Millennium Student Center, on the North Campus.
Fees must be paid in full in order to register for the following semester.
Questions regarding billing statements should be directed to the Advanced Credit Program at (314) 516-7005.
Registration takes place approximately 1-2 weeks after the start of the fall and spring semesters. A member of the Advanced Credit Program registration team will accept completed applications at the high school during the scheduled registration time. The Advanced Credit Program contact person at each high school will notify the adjunct faculty and their students of the date and time of registration at each high school. Fee payments are not accepted at the time of registration, as the University will invoice students after applications have been processed.
Applications are not considered complete without the course number and title, the name of the high school teacher, and the signature of a parent or guardian. Each student's social security number is needed for processing. In accordance with the Department of Higher Education, an application will also require the signature of a counselor or teacher to confirm the student's cumulative grade point average.
Students who miss registration at their high school may mail in applications up to two weeks following registration for fall and spring semesters. Mail-in applications must be accompanied by payment in full.
Some Advanced Credit courses enroll for a semester and others for a full year. Advanced Credit representatives will inform the adjunct faculty and students of the length of the course and the number of credit hours for each course.
Adding/Dropping Courses, Refunds
Courses may be added within the first two weeks after registration. Courses may be dropped anytime before a grade is issued for the course. Once a final grade has been issued, the course cannot be dropped. In order to be eligible to receive a refund, courses must be dropped prior to November 1, 2007 (fall semester) and April 1, 2008 (spring semester).
Advanced Credit students will be dropped due to nonpayment of educational fees. Students who do not pay for the Advanced Credit courses by November 1, 2007 (fall semester) or April 1, 2008 (spring semester) will be dropped.
Upon completion of Advanced Credit Program courses, teachers will issue grades on an official University grade sheet. After grades have been posted to transcripts, official University grade reports will be mailed to students. Students not receiving grade reports after a reasonable time should contact the Advanced Credit Program office.
Students needing to provide copies of their University of Missouri-St. Louis transcript to other institutions must request official copies. To do so, obtain a transcript request form from the Advanced Credit Program office, from www.umsl.edu/~register/student/transcripts.htm, or by writing to the Office of Records and Transcripts, UM-St. Louis, One University Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63121. Provide the student's Social Security number and the name and address of the college or university where the transcript should be sent. Unofficial transcript copies may be sent to the student's home. A $5 fee will be charged for each transcript requested.
Transcripts indicate the credits earned through Advanced Credit Program courses at the University of Missouri. Credits are transferable to other colleges and universities according to their transfer policies. Students are encouraged to contact the Director of Admissions at each college or university for questions regarding acceptance and transferability of courses.
Advanced Credit Program students with identification cards will be provided U-St. Louis Libraries checkout privileges with the responsibility for care and return of the materials.
Library hours of operation may be obtained online or by calling (314) 515-5060.
In addition to use of the UM-St. Louis Libraries, Advanced Credit Program students have access to the athletic facilities in the Mark Twain Building and to the Center for Academic Development, including writing and mathematics laboratories. Students may attend UM-St. Louis lectures and concerts free of charge or for the student fee. To avoid parking violation tickets, students should use parking spaces designated for visitors while on campus. University health services and e-mail provisions are not available to Advanced Credit Program students.
Following registration, Advanced Credit teachers will receive class rosters and student identification cards. Students whose names are missing from the class roster and/or who do not receive ID cards should contact the Advanced Credit Program office. Temporary ID cards will be issued to Advanced Credit Program students following registration each semester and will be mailed to the adjunct faculty member with the class roster(s). These cards are valid for the duration of the course(s) in which the students are enrolled and will allow the students access to University of Missouri-St. Louis libraries, on-campus activities and sporting events, and other opportunities that will be announced through the program newsletter and Web page. A valid ID card is required to use any UM-St. Louis facility.
Students wishing to exchange temporary ID cards for photo ID cards should stop by the Center for Student Services, located at 225 Millennium Student Center on North campus. Large groups visiting the campus who wish to exchange IDs are requested to contact the Advanced Credit Program office prior to their visit. Adjunct teachers of high school classes visiting the campus should notify the faculty liaison of their intention to exchange the temporary ID with the photo ID card.
Scholarships are provided to each school in the Advanced Credit Program. Selection of scholarship recipients is determined by each high school based upon financial need and academic performance. Scholarship forms are distributed to the high school contact person prior to registration.
Advanced Credit students may apply for admission to UM-St. Louis as degree-seeking students. Advanced Credit course work that is satisfactorily completed will count toward a degree. Application for admission as a degree-seeking student may be obtained by accessing www.umsl.edu/admission, by calling (314) 516-5451, or by writing to the Director of Admissions, UM-St. Louis, One University Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63121.
