Academic advising is an interactive process between a student and an advisor in which, at the minimum, the advisor assists the student with selecting appropriate classes, discusses academic policies, procedures, and degree requirements, and assesses the student's progress toward degree completion. The advisor may also be able to assist with clarifying academic and career goals, planning a program of study, and learning about educational and career options and campus resources.
The College of Business Administration offers "by-appointment advising" for all students who seek counseling about registration, graduation requirements, transfers, and more. Having a scheduled appointment allows the advisor the opportunity to gather together and review the student's records in advance. The advisor can provide more in depth and personal advising, and get to know the student better. Students always have some flexibility in selecting the advisor with whom to make an appointment.
All new students are required to make an appointment prior to registration.
Most appointments last approximately 30 minutes. Prospective students, particularly those from institutions outside the United States, may need additional time.
Starfish is the most convenient way to schedule an advising appointment. You can access Starfish in MyGateway. Log into MyGateway using your SSO ID & password. After you log into MyGateway click the Students tab. Schedule an 'Advising Appointment' is located in Academic Planning Tools.
When you arrive at the office for your appointment please check-in at the kiosk located on the reception desk. You can also use the kiosk to be added to the walk-in queue or to schedule a future appointment.
Appointments are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. So plan ahead and make your appointment today!
If you are a prospective student or do not have a SSO ID please contact the Graduate Business Office at (314)-516-5885 for assistance. Thank you!
Walk-ins are a convenient way for current students to receive answers to general questions.
Walk-ins are on a first-come, first-served basis. Current students are encouraged to schedule appointments to discuss specific situations regarding their degree programs.
Prospective students often have more detailed questions, so they should schedule an appointment to ensure that an advisor is available to address them fully.
We look forward to talking to you soon!!
