Women’s University Mentoring Project

The goal of the Women’s University Mentoring Project (WUMP) is to empower students to realize their talents and potentials. Women professionals volunteer to mentor a student. Students at a minimum visit the professionals once per month for a 45-minute session.
To
achieve its objectives (or short term goals), the project emphasizes that
students consider the following:
- connect students/graduates to business and organizational professionals
- pursue internships in chosen disciplines or career fields
- make better use of Career Services at UMSL
- join student organizations related to their careers
- establish contacts with business/organizational professionals
- understand the importance of mentoring in building a career
- sharpen skills and increase knowledge about chosen profession
- build relationships, including with peers
- develop networking opportunities and skills
- develop skills in working with people different from them
- increase retention of UMSL students
- increase graduation of UMSL students
- create a professional pool of talent
- retain graduates in the metro area
Mentors include professionals at St. Louis companies and organizations and UMSL faculty/staff.
