Gerontology Options
Gerontology Graduate Program - A separate academic program housed in the School of Social Work offering a 30-hour Master of Science in Gerontology (MSG) degree, as well as an 18-hour Graduate Certificate in Gerontology or an 18-hour Graduate Certificate in Long-Term Care Administration. The standard training emphasizes core competencies for "Generalist Gerontologists" and is suitable for persons interested in working in a variety of direct care, educational, policy and service settings. Gerontology Concentration in Social Work - A component of the MSW Program. Students take courses with an emphasis on the practice of Gerontological Social Work. Students in the Concentration may take courses offered through the Gerontology Graduate Program, and many choose to pursue the Graduate Certificate in Gerontology as an added credential towards employment in the field.
