Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Merritt received her Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Michigan State University in 2007. Her major research interests include the modeling and prediction of the process leading individuals to turnover, including identifying attitudinal, social, and behavioral antecedents and their interrelationships. In addition, she conducts research on attitudinal correlates of automated system use, disuse, and misuse – particularly trust. A new research area is examining issues related to prejudice and discrimination in organizations, particularly in terms of how implicit (i.e., automatically activated) attitudes affect attitudes and behaviors. For example, how do stereotype confirmation and violation affect implicit attitudes toward, and explicit reactions to, women in leadership positions?  How in turn do these reactions affect the women’s future behavior? Broadly, she aims to produce research that will make organizational experiences more satisfying and inclusive.
