CTR Clinic - Homicide Survivors
Psychological Services for Homicide Survivors
Psychological Services for Homicide Survivors is a project supported by funds made available through the Victims of Crime Act administered by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Missouri Department of Public Safety, Office of the Director. Authoritative studies have shown that many survivors of homicide victims need psychological support and/or treatment as a result of the homicide. As many as 50% of homicide survivors develop posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The goal of this project at the Center for Trauma Recovery is to serve friends, family, and/or neighbors of homicide survivors by providing psychological treatment that reduces symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder and facilitates normal grieving after traumatic loss. Clinicians from the Center for Trauma Recovery also provide support to homicide survivors by giving talks about posttraumatic stress disorder and complicated mourning to community, church and self-help groups.
