Community Services
The Center for Trauma Recovery provides a variety of community services as a natural extension of its research and treatment studies. The clinicians at the Center possess a very specialized body of knowledge as a result of their trauma-focused research. They have committed themselves to a variety of community outreach functions.
The Trauma
Clinic
People who have suffered a trauma
often benefit from more specialized therapy than is available through
a more general treatment method. With many years of experience in
doing this type of focused therapy in a research mode, the clinicians
at the Center for Trauma Recovery decided to make this expertise
available to non-research participants. The Trauma Clinic was opened
in September of 1996.
Services are provided by both licensed psychologists and doctoral or master's level clinicians. Treatment usually consists of short-term cognitive behavioral therapy and can be done with individuals, couples, families or groups. The clinic is open to any age group, including children. The trauma clinic is considered an out-of-network provider by most insurance carriers, but a sliding fee scale is available to those who do not have insurance coverage. Follow this link to learn more about the Trauma Clinic.
The Center for Trauma Recovery is the recipient of a community service grant through the Victims of Crime Act to provide therapy for Survivors of Homicide Victims. It is estimated that as many as 50% of homicide survivors develop post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Center clinicians provide services to reduce symptoms of PTSD and to facilitate normal grieving, at no cost to the person(s) in treatment.
The War Trauma Recovery Project, Inc. subcontracts with the Trauma Clinic to provide psychological services to war refugees in the St. Louis Metro area through professional interpreters and at no cost to the person(s) in therapy. The War Trauma Recovery Project, Inc. is funded by a variety of charitable grants and is a separate agency, not a part of the Center for Trauma Recovery. However, because of the similarity of their missions, there two agencies work together to provide care for this very unique population.
