Undergraduate Trauma Studies Certificate
Requirements
Undergraduate students may earn a Trauma Studies Certificate by completing 18 hours with a GPA of 2.0 or better from at least three departments from the following courses:
A. Students must complete at least 12 hours from the following group:
- Criminology and Criminal Justice 1120 - Criminal Law
- Criminology and Criminal Justice 4300 - Communities and Crime
- Criminology and Criminal Justice 4350 - Victimology
- Psychology 2232 - Psychology of Victims
- Psychology 2280 - The Psychology of Death and Dying
- Psychology 3295 - Selected Projects in Field Placement: Helping Victims of Crime (3 credits only toward certificate)
(Must seek approval of the Coordinator of the Trauma Studies Certificate in advance) - Psychology 3390 - Directed Studies: Trauma-related topics only (3 credits only toward certificate)
(Must seek approval of the Coordinator of the Trauma Studies Certificate in advance) - Psychology 4398 - Child Maltreatment: A Multidisciplinary Approach
- Social Work 4601 - Abused and Neglected Children
- Sociology 3250 - Sociology of Victimization
- Sociology 3278- Sociology of Law
Only one of the following highly recommended courses may be counted toward the Trauma Studies Certificate:
- Psychology 2161 - Helping Relationships
- Social Work 3100 - Introduction to Interventive Strategies for Social Work Practice
B. Students may count up to six hours from the following group toward the Trauma Studies Certificate:
- Criminology and Criminal Justice 2230 - Crime Prevention
- Criminology and Criminal Justice 2240 - Policing
- Criminology and Criminal Justice 2251 - Youth Gangs
- Criminology and Criminal Justice/ Sociology 4325 - Gender, Crime, and Justice
- Criminology and Criminal Justice/ Sociology 4340 - Race, Crime and Justice
- Political Science 2400 - Public Administration
- Political Science 2420 - Introduction to Public Policy
- Political Science 4940 - Leadership and Management in Nonprofit Organizations
- Psychology/Sociology 2160 - Social Psychology
- Psychology 2230 - Psychology of Women
- Psychology 4235 - Community Psychology
- Psychology 2245 - Abnormal Psychology
- Social Work 3700 - Diversity and Social Justice
- Sociology 2102 - Introduction to Women and Gender Studies
- Sociology 3268 - The Sociology of Conflict
