The Advanced Credit program provides college credit for approved language courses for qualifying high school students who participate.
DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND LITERATURE
POLICIES REGARDING ADVANCED CREDIT COURSES
As our program grows and we serve the needs of a larger community of
high school students, we find it necessary to
implement a number of measures that will further
strengthen the program and
enhance ongoing credibility. To that end, the Department of Foreign
Languages and Literatures needs to enforce a series of policies with the
purpose of protecting
the viability of Advanced Credit for modern foreign
languages. The following is a reiteration
of those
policies:
- Advanced Credit is open to students in language III,
IV, and V who have completed language
II with at least a "B" and are taught
in single level classes. Advanced credit is not given for
split level
classes if language III and IV are combined. In classes where language IV
and V have
to be combined, credit can only be granted if the respective
UM-St. Louis faculty liaisons are
provided the necessary course syllabi,
course curricula, and end of year evaluation instruments
with which to make
the judgment that Language V is indeed a different and qualitatively
advanced
course from Language IV. If language V consists of 5 students or
more, every effort should be
made to teach language V in a separate class.
- Enrollment in Advanced Credit foreign language
classes is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors.
High school first-year students are not eligible for
Advanced Credit.
- All High School visits to the UM-St.Louis campus are to be scheduled through the liaison faculty member responsible for the specific language.
