Pre-Health Professions Advising

Pre-Health Advisor: Joe Southerland

The University of Missouri – St. Louis does not offer a degree in Pre-Health Studies. Students wishing to enter medical, dental, optometry or veterinary medicine schools should pursue B.A. or B.S. degrees in the majors of their choice, but they should also take the courses necessary for admission to the professional school.

Due to varying requirements for professional healthcare schools, students are encouraged to meet regularly with their pre-health advisor and consult catalogs of the schools to which they intend to apply. It is also recommended that students consult official school guides published by national professional school associations.

Before meeting with the Pre-Health Advisor students should at least be able to enroll MATH 1030: College Algebra. Information on math placement can be found here. Information and dates for the Math Placement Test can be found here. Practice tests for the MPT can be found here. Feel free to contact the Pre-Health Advisor about math placement.

Students interested in Nursing should contact the College of Nursing.
