Luimil Negrón joined the CAS team as the graduate assistant for Latino Recruitment and Retention this fall. Originally from Puerto Rico, she landed in St. Louis after Hurricane Katrina displaced her from her home in New Orleans. She later earned two master's degrees at UMSL, one in Music Education and a second master's in History.
Her experience in New Orleans and her time in Puerto Rico have made her extremely passionate about issues regarding social justice and education. She sees how in her own family education transformed not just individuals but generations, and she hopes that through her work UMSL will be able to help thousands of Latinos go to college and reach their full potential.
When she is not working or studying with her dog beside her (she is a doctoral student in Global Education and Leadership), Luimil loves to read, hear live music, play the violin, paint crappy water colors, yell about politics, and reminisce about playing Vivaldi in Venice.
