Hiring Information

The staff of Career Services is pleased that you have chosen the University of Missouri-St. Louis to assist you with your employment needs.

This On-Campus Interviewing Guide is designed to provide you with information which will enable you to have a productive, satisfying recruiting visit. Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with UM-St. Louis, its students, Career Services, and the on-campus interviewing process.

The On-Campus Interviewing Process

Contact Career Services at (314) 516-6791 as soon as possible to select an interview date. There are a limited number of interview rooms and dates fill quickly! We can help you keep the academic calendar of the University in mind when choosing your interview date. For instance, you may not have the opportunity to interview an optimum number of students if you schedule your interview date during Spring Break.

Your interview date will not be confirmed until you complete a Campus Recruiting Information Form (CRIF). This form requires you to provide basic information about your company, the names of interviewers coming on campus, the job description, the interview schedule type, and information on the candidates you want to interview. Completion of the CRIF begins the on-campus interviewing process.

If you would like to conduct a pre-recruiting event or presentation on campus prior to your interview date, you should discuss potential dates with Career Services as soon as possible. This allows us to reserve space on campus, arrange for audiovisual needs, and coordinate other services you may require. It also prevents conflicts with other company events on campus.

Please keep in mind that most UM-St. Louis students balance a busy schedule of school, work, and family commitments when scheduling your event. The best time to schedule events on our campus may differ from that of other colleges and universities. Please consult a Career Services staff member about when to schedule a pre-recruiting event on the UM-St. Louis campus so that you have a successful recruiting experience!

Interview Schedules

You will determine the number and type of interview schedules that you desire when completing the CRIF. Interviews typically begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m., in 30 minute intervals, with one hour for lunch. This schedule allows you to speak with 15 candidates per schedule. You can choose to vary from this pattern, opting for longer interview times, time for breaks, or a longer lunch. Schedules depend on the number of candidates selected to interview.

There are two types of interview schedules, open and pre-select.

Open schedules permit all interested students who are registered with Career Services the opportunity to sign up for an interview, provided they meet the minimum criteria designated by your company.

Pre-select schedules allow you to screen candidates' resumes prior to your interview date. Candidates submit resumes to Career Services on-line 3 weeks prior to the interview date. You then view the resumes on-line and select the candidates that you wish to interview.

Citizenship Requirements

Please ascertain that you are in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) as you complete the CRIF. Most positions can require the candidate to be presently authorized to work on a full-time basis in the United States for an indefinite time period. If your company will interview only United States citizens, please supply a copy of your IRCA exemption.

Career Services will publicize the United States citizenship requirement for employers exempt under IRCA. However, Career Services does not pre-screen students to ensure their compliance with this citizenship requirement.

Publicity

Information related to your visit will be posted on our web site at careers.umsl.edu. Career Services will inform candidates of the date of your visit, the number and type of interview schedules available, a brief position description (including qualifications), and a date by which resumes must be submitted.

Special Needs

If you have special needs or require accommodations, please let us know. Career Services will be happy to assist you and your organization.

Parking

You will receive a parking pass via email two days prior to your interviewing date.

The Day of Your Visit

Career Services opens at 8 a.m., Monday through Friday. Please remember the time of your first interview.

No-Shows

Career Services expects you to respect candidates' time and schedules. Please arrive on time and stay on schedule throughout the day.

If you must cancel your interview day, please do so as soon as possible so that we may notify all candidates scheduled to interview. Employers who no-show or cancel at the last minute leave a bad impression on both the candidates and the staff of Career Services.

Lunch

Career Services can assist you with lunch arrangements during your visit. We will be happy to help you identify faculty in the appropriate department to join you for lunch. Restaurant facilities are available on campus in the Millennium Student Center. Please ask a Career Services staff member for suggestions on off-campus dining alternatives. However, please be sensitive of your time restrictions.

At the Day's End

Career Services asks that you complete an Evaluation Form that will be emailed to you after your interview day. This allows us to assess the strengths and weaknesses of our program. If you have any additional comments about your visit, please let us know. Your feedback is valuable to us. We want to meet your needs, and have your visit be successful!

Hiring Information

Hopefully, your on-campus interviewing day will culminate with one or more new hires from our campus. Please inform Career Services - after all, helping our students get hired is what we do best! We need information regarding the candidate's name, salary, start date, and job title for our records. We also collect information on job offers that were not accepted. These records are confidential; this information is used only for statistical analysis and reports.

Thank you for choosing the University of Missouri- St. Louis as a recruiting source.

Please feel free to contact us at (314) 516-5111 if you have any questions before, during, or after your visit.
