About this program:
This project is coordinated by the Community Partnership Project and funded through a two-year New Directions grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
|
Affton and the University of Missouri-St. Louis have come together to tackle issues that Affton residents
and leaders say may threaten the community’s future. The Affton
Community Partnership is funded by a two-year Community
Outreach Partnership Center grant from the U.S. Department of
Housing and Urban Development, and will bring together the resources
of the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Affton community
partners and residents to develop projects in the following areas:
The Affton Community Partnership will focus on three key areas:
- Welcoming New Americans to the Affton Community -- developing a New Americans Task Force, creating an
outreach and engagement strategy designed to recruit and facilitate
community involvement of New Americans, and providing seminars
and technical assistance services for government officials,
police officers, business owners, and school district personnel.
- Supporting Affton's Old Residents -- creating
a community stakeholders committee, conducting a housing needs
assessment of the community’s older population, and developing
a set of strategies to better link the housing environment with
the abilities and needs of older residents.
- Building Capacity to Bring About Change -- helping the volunteer-based Affton
Community Betterment Association to develop a strategic
plan and better focus resources and develop partnerships that
will strengthen and sustain the community.
Dr. Terry Jones, professor of political
science, serves as principal investigator for the Affton Community
Partnership grant, and Kay Gasen, Community Partnership Project,
serves as project manager. The Partnership is supported by faculty
and students from the School
of Social Work, the Gerontology
Program and the Public
Policy Administration Masters Program, as well as faculty
from University of Missouri Extension.
The following community partners are providing resources to support
the Affton Community Partnership:
