Summary of Advanced Credit Program Policies (Revised Fall 2002)
Who is eligible to take courses?
High school juniors and seniors with a 3.0 or higher GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
Sophomores may take Foreign Language courses by meeting one of the following:
- Score at 90th percentile or above on the PSAT, PLAN, SAT, or ACT test
OR
- Have an overall GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and GPA of 3.5 in foreign language sequence taken prior to enrollment in courses with UMSL designation French 001, German 001, or Spanish 001.
What is the cost?
Dual credit fees for 2002/2003 are $49.80 per hour or $149.40 for 3 hours and $249.00 for 5 hours.
Are scholarships available?
Participating schools select students for available scholarships with priority given to high-achieving students with financial need. Scholarship forms will be sent to the schools.
Is course credit transferable?
While no limit is placed on the number of courses that may be transferred, the University of Missouri assures the transfer of five courses taken as dual credit delivered by institutions in compliance with the dual credit policy within the state of Missouri. Outside of the state, students should check with the institution. See the ACP High Schools pages for a list of schools accepting credit.
What are the qualifications for instructors?
- Minimum of a Masters degree with minimum of 18 graduate hours in the course discipline. (CBHE standards will be enforced in fall 2003; dual-credit instructors will be in compliance.)
- Recommendation by on-campus faculty within the department and approval of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Are instructor scholarships available?
The purpose of Advanced Credit scholarships is to improve instruction and meet CBHE guidelines. All scholarships must be used within the academic year (including the summer term) coinciding with teacher participation in the Advanced Credit program.
- Each Advanced Credit instructor is eligible for one graduate course (3 hours) scholarship for each semester of participation in the program.
- For 2002-2003, professional development scholarships are available for participating schools. Principals and Advanced Credit school contacts have information about these scholarships.
The mission of the Advanced Credit (Dual Credit) Program in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Missouri-St. Louis is to enable high-performing high school students an opportunity to take high-quality lower-division college courses on their high school campus.
