April 28, 2005

There was a discussion pertaining to electronic proposals at the Curriculum and Instruction meeting, April 12, 2005. Effective May 1, 2005, the Faculty Senate website will contain a link that will direct you to Curriculum and Instruction forms, procedures, and the status of submitted forms. The Committee agreed that the process of electronically submitted course proposals and program forms would be acceptable if the following procedures are followed:

The form should be completed in either 'Times New Roman' or 'Garamond' font and emailed (FORWARDED) in the following order(Forwarding creates the paper trail.);

    1. Department/Unit Chair
    2. College/School Dean
    3. (If required) Sign-off person for cross-listed courses
      a. Sign-off person forwards form back to the Dean
    4. Academic Affairs (Barb Trauterman)

When submitting an electronic form, the SUBJECT title of your email should be the new number of the proposal and (if appropriate) the number of the cross referenced course(s). This will generate a paper trail and expedite the approval process. Within three working days of notification in the Senate office, the proposal should be posted on the Faculty Senate website. Paper proposals will be accepted through the 2005-06 academic year.

Note:
Chairs/Deans
– After you have reviewed the form, please type in your name followed by your extension number. Don’t forget to include the date.

Sign-off person - Type your department name, your title, name, and extension number. Forward the form back to the dean, who will forward the form to Barb Trauterman, trautermanb@umsl.edu, in Academic Affairs.

As soon as the form has been received in the Senate Office, a confirmation will be emailed to all concerned parties. If there are any questions regarding the form, you may be contacted by email or telephone.

If you have any questions regarding these procedures, please contact Marcia Blackburn, x6768 or blackburnme@umsl.edu. Your comments/suggestions are welcomed.
