(minutes to be considered for approval at April 24, 2001, second organizational meeting of 2001-2002 Senate)

 

 

FACULTY SENATE

UM-St. Louis

March 13, 2001

2:30 p.m.     Student Government Chamber     Millennium Student Center

 

 

The meeting was called to order by the Faculty Senate Chairperson for 2000-2001, Dr. Lawrence Barton, who requested nominations from the floor for Senate Chairperson in 2001-2002.  Dr. Barton, the sole nominee, was elected by acclamation.  His election was greeted with applause.

 

Next, Dr. Barton requested nominations from the floor for Senate Secretary in 2001-2002.  Dr. Lois Pierce, the sole nominee, was elected by acclamation.  Her election was greeted with applause.

 

Then the floor was opened for nominations for faculty to serve on the 2001-2002 Committee on Committees.  The nominees were:

 

                        Humanities:  Dr. Thaddeus Metz (Philosophy)

                        Social Sciences:  Drs. Van Reidhead (Anthropology) and

                                    E. Terrence Jones (Political Science)

                        Science/Mathematics:  Teresa Thiel (Biology) and Gail Ratcliff

                                    (Mathematics and Computer Science)

Business Administration:  Joseph Martinich (Logistics and

            Operations Management) and David Ganz (Accounting),

            who withdrew

Education:  Carole Murphy (Educational Leadership and Policy

            Studies)

Nursing:  Sandra Lindquist

Optometry:  William Long

 

An election was held for seats on the Committee on Committees from Social Sciences (Dr. Jones won.) and from Science/Mathematics (Dr. Thiel won.).  Members of the Committee on Committees were asked to convene immediately

upon adjournment. 

 

Completing the business at hand, the first organizational meeting of the 2001-2002 Senate adjourned at 2:50 p.m.

Note 1:  After the close of the meeting, Dr. William Long reported to the Senate Chairperson that he could not serve.  The only other eligible candidate from Optometry (Dr. Carl Bassi) was asked to serve for Dr. Long.

 

Note 2:  Dr. E. Terrence Jones was elected Chairperson of the Committee on Committees.
