Message regarding UMSL-UM System Budget Update

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

The entire University of Missouri System has been working this spring to create sustainable budgets that promote excellence in teaching, research and community engagement. I am writing to encourage you to view the live stream of President Mun Choi’s budget address at 1 p.m. today. The live stream link will be available on the UM System budget planning website.

Among the items President Choi will discuss are his decisions related to the budget proposal forwarded from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. Working on a tight deadline, various individuals and groups from this campus put forward a bold outline to streamline operations in order to focus resources on academic and non-academic areas of excellence and centrality.

Campus leadership is hosting a town hall meeting from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, in the Summit Lounge of the J.C. Penney Building. Following my opening remarks, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Rick Baniak will provide a brief overview of the budget plan. Provost Kristin Sobolik will give an update on the academic review process. We will be available to field any questions related to the budget or other areas of campus operations after those presentations.

Thank you for your continued hard work in support of our students and community. I look forward to speaking with you Wednesday.

Tom George
