Message regarding passing of Mary Ann Lee

04/18/17

Dear Colleagues,

Like many of you, I was saddened to learn this morning of the passing of Mary Ann Lee. She was an outstanding St. Louisan and tremendous supporter of the University of Missouri–St. Louis and its students.

Mary Ann and her late husband, E. Desmond Lee, created the Des Lee Collaborative Vision – an organization that links more than 30 endowed professors with local community organizations and agencies and funds numerous scholarships. The Collaborative was founded at UMSL and remains housed here.

Collectively, the Lees contributed more than $70 million to various institutions in St. Louis – expanding educational opportunities, improving healthcare outcomes and enhancing regional assets such as Forest Park.

Mary Ann will be missed by many and remembered by all for her vision and generosity. My sympathies today and always are with Mary Ann’s family.

Tom George
Chancellor
