Welcoming UM System President Mun Choi

03/01/17

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

Today our UMSL community welcomes Dr. Mun Choi as the 24th president of the University of Missouri System. Dr. Choi is an exceptional academic, talented administrator and a passionate champion for public higher education.

In his role as president, Dr. Choi serves as the chief executive responsible for the long-term strategic direction and day-to-day management of the collective UM System, which includes the UMSL campus, our sister campuses in Columbia, Kansas City and Rolla, as well as a statewide health care system, multiple research parks and incubators, agricultural research stations, and a vast network of Small Business & Technology Development Centers, Extension Centers, Telehealth Network sites and MoreNet sites.

Dr. Choi first visited UMSL in November when he shared his deep commitment to the UMSL mission of educating students, fostering innovative research and engaging the local community with respect, diversity and inclusion always in mind. I certainly look forward to working with Dr. Choi to showcase all that we do at UMSL to meet that mission. Together, I am confident that we will advance the important work of our university and continue to positively impact the people of the St. Louis region and beyond.

You are invited to extend your well wishes to President Choi and his wife, Suzanne, under the welcome story on the President’s Blog.

To end, I would like to give my sincere thanks to Interim UM System President Michael Middleton. Over the past 16 months he has served as a tireless advocate for the UM System and UMSL and truly moved the university forward during a time of challenge and transition. I wish him well in his second and much-deserved retirement.

Sincerely,

Tom George
Chancellor
