Mike was accepted into the UMSL Criminology and Criminal Justice doctoral program in 2008. He came to St. Louis from Bowling Green State University after completing his BS and MS in criminal justice. His masters thesis explored the victim-offender overlap in a northern Ohio youth sample.
Mike's research interests include youth violence and victimization, youth gangs, and research methods. He serves as a research assistant under the direction of Finn Esbensen on the National Evaluation of the Gang Resistance Education and Training(G.R.E.A.T.) program and A Multi-method, Multi-site Study of Gang Desistance.
His dissertation uses a mixed methods approach to explore the role of violence within and across the lives of self-identified gang youth.
