Message from the Dean

Dean Womer

Welcome to our website! Here are some things you may not know about us:

UM-St. Louis is the largest university in the St. Louis metropolitan area, and the UMSL College of Business Administration is the region’s largest AACSB accredited business school.

The UMSL Information Systems faculty is ranked number three in the US for faculty productivity.

The UMSL program in International Business is ranked #16 in the US by U S News and World Reports. It has been ranked in the top 20 for the past six years.

Each year the College of Business Administration awards hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to business students.

UMSL has graduated two classes of IMBA students in partnership with six universities around the world.

UMSL is the only university in the US with a Fortune 200 corporate headquarters on its campus. This has been a source of numerous internships and class visits. Our PMBA program dedicated to ESI young executives started classes September 2008.

Our faculty and students were involved with over 40 research and consulting projects with St Louis business firms in the past year. These offer students the opportunity to practice just those skills that have been identifies as critical for the growth of the St Louis business environment.

The St Louis workforce contains more UMSL graduates than those of any other University. Our alumni network is second to none in St Louis.

UMSL and the College of Business Administration are number one in helping Community College students complete their degrees. Our graduates include a higher percentage of transfer students than any other university in the United States.

Over 20 student organizations offer opportunities to reach out to the community; the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, VITA, has been serving low income and elderly St. Louis residents for over 30 years.

Our faculty earn major awards. Professor Michael Harris has received the system-wide Thomas Jefferson Award; he is a Fellow of the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Dr. Hung-gay Fung was listed as one of the most prolific authors in finance over the last 50 years. Professor David Ronen was recognized as an Edelman Laureate by the Institute for Operations Research & the Management Sciences (INFORMS). Professor Mary Lacity was honored with the Gateway Innovator 2008 award. Dr. Janet Murray was listed as the most prolific female researcher in International Business in the world.

The College offers a BSBA degree in Business in conjunction with St Louis Community College at its new Wildwood Campus.

The College of Business Administration operates the largest student internship program in the St. Louis region in partnership with all of the major accounting firms and companies like Express Scripts, UPS, Boeing, Edward Jones, Anheuser-Busch, Sigma Aldrich and others.

State Farm regularly visits our campus to offer mentoring and job search skills to our students and the Executive Leadership Institute offers many other opportunities for students to interact with business professionals.

The College of Business Administration offers the only board-registered financial planning program in the region, and serves both students and practitioners.

The University of Missouri – St. Louis is the area’s only public research university. In the College of Business Administration, the Center for Transportation Studies and the Center for Business and Industrial Studies involve students in the research with St Louis Business firms, non-profit organizations and government.

We are among the 10 percent of the Business schools in the country to carry AACSB accreditation for both our Business and Accounting programs.

We offer a broad range of programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels – from Financial Planning to Logistics and Supply Chain Management, from Bachelor’s degrees to graduate certificates, to Masters degrees, to the Ph.D. – our offerings are among the broadest in the region.

Our faculty provide you with the best of both worlds – they are engaged in cutting-edge research in their disciplines, AND they are engaged in consulting and collaborations with some of the biggest corporations and not-for-profits in the St. Louis region. This expertise benefits the student because faculty expertise is brought into the classroom every day.

In short, the UM-St. Louis College of Business Administration provides an unbeatable combination of quality and value, the College of Business Administration that offers the best learning experience to accelerate professional careers!

Sincerely,

Keith Womer, Ph.D.
Dean and Professor of Logistics and Operations Management
