From its beginnings, graduate education at UMSt. Louis has been guided by four broad purposes: development of excellence in scholarship; encouragement of creative productivity in research; fostering of the highest standards in professional competence and commitment; and development of skill in the communication of knowledge. Responsive to the unique and comprehensive demands of the St. Louis area, the University has moved rapidly in the development of specialized facilities, a distinguished and creative faculty, and appropriate graduate programs to achieve these objectives.
