Benefit from the largest program in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, which excels on many levels with 70 PhD candidates and upwards of 600 undergraduates, providing a massive pool of resources for constructive discussion and cooperative learning. In total, the Department of Psychology has conferred 3,300 bachelor's degrees and nearly 200 professional degrees.

UMSL’s psychology faculty members are nationally and internationally renowned scholars and experts in their fields of research. Our faculty is student-focused, aiming to prepare our students for careers in psychology, with an emphasis on laboratory and field research.

The Department of Psychology's experimental laboratories are fitted with numerous psychophysiological apparatuses for both human and animal experimental projects. In addition to this fine equipment, the PhD candidates can choose from several foci.

Each program chosen by the candidates includes invaluable training opportunities at UMSL's three psychology clinics, which provide psychological assessments and treatment for citizens of the region. The incomparable experience gained from these training opportunities won’t only grant you insight and knowledge of the discipline, but will provide real-world experience that is an invaluable addition to your resume and work history.
