Serious Education, Serious Value ℠
The University of Missouri–St. Louis is one of the few institutions across the country that offers degrees in biochemistry and biotechnology. The St. Louis metropolitan area has long been a major center for biochemistry and biotechnology, and in the past decade, has become a focus for the establishment of life sciences research and development. A degree in biochemistry and biotechnology provides students with the training needed to take advantage of the job opportunities in biotechnology and life sciences in St. Louis or throughout the world.
The biochemistry and biotechnology degrees provide students with a solid foundation in both chemistry and biology, as well as in-depth specialization in the rapidly growing fields of biochemistry, molecular biology and biotechnology. The strength of our interdisciplinary curriculum is reflected in student scores on major field assessment exams, where our graduates rank very high compared to national norms.
Biochemistry and Biotechnology Degree Programs
Our students are encouraged to gain invaluable research experience in a faculty member’s laboratory. Faculty members in this program are not only dedicated teachers, but are involved in cutting-edge research in areas such as biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology and developmental biology.
UMSL students have the opportunity through course work, laboratories, seminars and research experience to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the work force or to go on with further graduate education. Our graduates are employed widely and attend many graduate programs.
