Suellynn Duffey administers the Writing Program at UMSL and has served as WPA at universities as diverse as The Ohio State University and Georgia Southern University (where she worked in a free-standing department of writing and linguistics). She has held a national office (president of the Conference on Basic Writing), worked on large-scale assessment projects, and conducted grant-sponsored projects on writing across the curriculum, linked basic and honors writing classes, and technology. Professor Duffey has published on ethical, theoretical, and geographical/cultural matters in writing program administration as well collaborative writing program structures; on issues involved with tracking students in writing programs; on instructional practices that link reading and writing in basic writing courses; and other topics. Professor Duffey thinks, teaches, and writes about writing in a variety of creative and exciting of ways; she teaches graduate courses in writing pedagogy, composition history, and composition theory, as well as undergraduate classes in writing and literacy.
