MSIS 6836 - Telecommunications: Design and Management
This course is a survey of the technical as well as
business/management aspects of modern distributed computing environments. Client-Server Computing does not refer
to any particular hardware or software technology, rather it refers to a particular
paradigm of distributed computing.
This course will cover the major building blocks of contemporary
distributed applications, middleware services, Web Services, mobile computing
platforms, eCommerce/eBusiness platforms, component-based architectures, and
enterprise application integration. Numerous real-life case studies and
examples will be employed to highlight the key points. Specific topics covered include:
Examination of applications
(CRMs, ERP, SCMs, emarkets) that drive the enabling
technologies.
Discussion of contemporary
middleware services with emphasis on Web, XML, Semantic Web, and Web
Services.
Analysis of
mobile computing and EC/EB platforms that are becoming available to support special
purpose applications.
Approaches to designing
and developing solutions, and integrating applications by using Web Services
and components.
Third Generation Distributed
