Course Description

This course is for students and managers who desire an overview of contemporary information systems technology (IT) management. It delves into relevant issues of effective management of information services activities and highlights the areas of greatest potential application of the technology. Minimal experience with IT is necessary for this course, but it is assumed that the student has some course work or work experience in administration or management.

Some of the salient issues that will be studied include:

·         eCommerce and eBusiness. Cases highlighting companies from around the globe, with an emphasis on IT Operations.

·         Digital Infrastructure supported by new e-Business cases that emphasize the technology modifications brought about by digitization in old economy infrastructures.

·         Valuation methodology for investments in e-Business initiatives. A popular topic today because business units are requiring IT departments to provide some form of ROI to justify the years long investment in upgrading systems.

·         Information partnerships, security and privacy addressing the new challenges we face due to greater access to individual information

Pedagogy & Performance Evaluation

 

The pedagogy will comprise traditional lectures, and analyses/discussions of 20 case studies addressing salient issues of interest. 

 

Letter grades will be assigned based on performance on three exams and class participation during cases analyses.  The relative importance of each component is as follows:
