The Office of Student Financial Aid is available to assist students and their families with learning and navigating the processes necessary to secure funds that will help pay educational expenses incurred at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Most students are eligible for some type of assistance, depending on their enrollment status, need, and their program of admission, here at the University. If eligible, you could be awarded one or a combination of several aid programs in the form of grants, loans, work-study, or scholarships. Some awards are based on financial need, while others are based on merit and/or achievement.
If you have been admitted to the University and are in need of financial assistance to help pay your educational expenses, you are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov using the FAFSA code listed above. If you are a Missouri resident, working on your first undergraduate degree, your FAFSA information must be received at the federal processing center by April 1 of each year, in order to be considered for state aid. Once we receive your FAFSA information, we will contact you, letting you know your awarded financial aid program(s) or, if we need additional information from you.
The FAFSA must be completed each year in order to continue your eligibility for federal and state aid. In addition, you must also meet eligibility requirements and maintain satisfactory academic progress as outlined on our website atwww.umsl.edu/services/finaid/finaidbasics/sap.htm.
Federal Work-Study is a federal financial aid program; therefore, FAFSA filing is required each year in order to establish your eligibility. The positions are designed for students to gain valuable work experience and to develop new skills. On-campus job opportunities allow for a flexible work schedule while attending classes. Off-campus community service positions provide a unique opportunity for you to make a valuable contribution to the St. Louis community. For details on how to apply for FWS positions, visit our website at www.umsl.edu/services/finaid/workstudy/about.htm.
Financial Aid has an established financial aid appeals procedure. An aid applicant can raise questions or appeal the offer, or lack of an offer, of financial aid if not satisfied. The general provisions for appeals procedures are as follows:
