All incoming undergraduates must be advised prior to registration. Students who have selected a major should contact the academic department offering that degree or they may seek professional advice in the College Advising Office located in 303 Lucas Hall. A list of Departmental Advisors and contact information is available on the College of Arts & Sciences website and on each department's website.

The 14 departments in the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Social Welfare offer 33 majors, 32 minors, and 14 certificate programs in the humanities, social sciences, mathematics and computer science, and the biological and physical sciences. Interdisciplinary programs include Women’s and Gender Studies, Gerontology, Conservation Biology, Trauma Studies, International Studies, the Bachelor of Liberal Studies, Biochemistry and Biotechnology, and others.

The College of Arts & Sciences also serves students with interests in the health sciences, pre-law, pre-journalism, and pre-architecture. Information on these areas may be obtained in the Office of Undergraduate Student Affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences, 303 Lucas Hall.

Since there are specific requirements in each major that must be satisfied, students are urged to declare a major as soon as possible. This may be done at the time of application or later in the College Advising Office, 303 Lucas Hall. Once a major is declared, the department offering the degree will assign a faculty advisor and contact the student. The advisor, usually a faculty member in the major, will assist in selecting suitable courses and advise the student in matters relating to degree requirements.
