Amber Smock's eighth grade “keyboard” teacher once told her she should never work with computers. She likes to think she was just moving too fast for her Apple (circa 1992) to keep up. To steer clear of all technology, she focused more on people and decided to study psychology with an emphasis in human resources. Little did she know her HR start would also bring her full circle back to the tech world.
At the beginning of her career she worked as an Office Manager/HR Coordinator at a small IT staffing firm before she landed an Executive Assistant position at a local digital agency, Infuz. Infuz really helped broaden her knowledge of digital and the advertising community, and it didn’t take long before she loved her job. After a few years she was craving more focused HR experience, so she moved on to work for Momentum. She started out in payroll, moved on to benefits, and now works in a generalist capacity. The digital department is just one of several she supports at Momentum. She also manages the St. Louis and Atlanta portion of their North American internship program called Equation. She had always wanted to work in an ad agency; the culture, excitement, and fast paced environment was perfect fit for her personality. So, landing a job within the HR world and in this industry was a dream come true. She looks forward to the changes UMSL is bringing to digital education and is thrilled to be a part of this advisory board.
