Vision Coalition
(ICVC)

The Infants' and Children's Vision Coalition (ICVC) developed from discussions at the two Children's Vision Summits held by the American Optometric Association in April and November 2000. In February 2001, formal organization of the ICVC was approved and implemented.

Coalition Members

The Coalition is composed of eight member organizations: 

American Academy of Optometry (AOA)

Since 1922, the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) has been enhancing excellence in optometric practice by fostering research and disseminating knowledge in vision science through the continuing education presented at its annual meeting. Fellows of the Academy are committed to the premise that learning is a lifelong obligation of a professional, as is the commitment to expand the profession's knowledge base through ongoing Fellowship and exchange.

Vision Awareness Network (VAN)

The Vision Awareness Network (VAN) strives to give everyone a clear vision of the future through promoting the role of vision, eyes and sight in human health and well-being. We can imagine a world where it is possible that every child receives professional eye and vision exams as routinely as immunizations. That is one of the reasons the network exists; to educate teachers, health care providers, parents, and the general public about the importance of early and regular optometric examinations.

Just as important, VAN is exploring other areas of eye and vision health which might need our assistance with public outreach in the coming years. Our organization’s history of collaborating with individuals and organizations, coupled with our expertise in creating compelling support materials, will strive to be a beacon to help promote the value of a lifetime of eye and vision health.

American Optometric Association (AOA)

The American Optometric Association is the premier authority in the optometric profession. The AOA leads the way in its mission of improving the quality and availability of eye and vision care everywhere. Founded in 1898, the AOA is a federation of state, student and armed forces optometric associations. Through these affiliations, the AOA serves members consisting of optometrists, students of optometry, paraoptometric assistants and technicians.

College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD)

About COVD The College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) is a non-profit, international membership association of eye care professionals including optometrists, optometry students, and vision therapists. Established in 1971, COVD provides board certification for eye doctors and vision therapists who are prepared to offer state-of-the-art services in -- Behavioral and developmental vision care; Vision therapy; Visual rehabilitation

Eye Care Council (SEE TO LEARN)

The Eye Care Council is a preventive health care organization providing innovative education about vision care. The Council consists of optometrists dedicated to improving and preserving vision through public education. The Council was formed in 1991 by the Kansas Optometric Association to carry out the objective of educating the public about the importance of regular preventive vision care and about the warning signs of vision problems.

SEE TO LEARN®is an innovative, three-step preventive health program designed to ensure that kindergarten
children entering school can see to learn and to educate parents and teachers about the warning signs of vision
problems in all school-age children.

Optometric Extension Program Foundation (OEPF)

The OEPF is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to the gathering and dissemination of information on Vision.

Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO)

Founded in 1941, the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) is a non-profit education association representing the interests of optometric education. ASCO is committed to achieving excellence in optometric education and to helping its member schools prepare well-qualified graduates for entrance into the profession of optometry.

The mission of the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry is to serve the American public through the continued advancement and promotion of all aspects of academic optometry.

American Optometric Student Association (AOSA)

The AOSA is committed to promoting the optometric profession, enhancing the education and welfare of optometry students, as well as enhancing the vision and ocular health of the public.The AOSA represents over 6,000 students attending the 19 schools and colleges of optometry throughout the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico.
