Directions for Getting to Missouri Historical Society from UM-St. Louis

UMSL to MHS map

It is possible that some students will want to come see me at my Missouri Historical Society office. Since I work there on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, it is possible that some students' schedules will be so full on Tuesdays and Thursdays (my UMSL days) that they can only meet with me there. I welcome you to visit me at MHS for any reason. Although I am there on nearly all Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, do keep in mind that the building is "officially" closed on Mondays--there will be a sign out front that will say, in effect, that it is closed. So be sure to let me know when you are coming on Monday so I can alert the security personnel to keep an eye out for you and let you in.

On this map, UMSL is represented by the "S" with a black box around it, and the Missouri Historical Society Library and Research Center is represented by the "E" with a black box around it.

I do not recommend going through city streets, as this map directs you—too complicated.

Instead:

1. From UMSL, go west down Natural Bridge Road until you hit Interstate 170.

2. Get in the left hand lane to enter I-170.

3. Take I-170 South until you hit Forest Park Parkway. Take that exit.

4. Stay on Forest Park Parkway until you come to Skinker Boulevard. You will be turning right on Skinker, so stay in the right hand lane. Washington University will be on the right hand side before you turn.

5. Go south on Skinker through two lights, until you come to the Missouri Historical Society's Library and Research Center, at 225 South Skinker Boulevard. It is immediatley after the intersection of Wydown Boulevard and Skinker.

Once you park, go up the front steps into the receptionist's area, and ask the receptionist for me. She will call my office and I will come get you.

MHS Library and Research Center
The Missouri Historical Society's Library and Research Center is a beautiful old building with a dome on top (which you cannot see in this picture). It has a parking lot to its south side; and if that is full, you can park on the side street to the south (Fauquier) or on Skinker (except on the first Wednesday of every month after noon). I will be there most Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Although the building is not open to the public on Mondays, I will still be there if we have an appointment, so do not hesitate to knock on the front door at the top of the steps, because the receptionist will be waiting for you.

If you have any questions, or if you get lost, my MHS phone is 746-4560.
