Dr. Tom Dooley, Earl Rhine, Dwight Davis,
and their staff in front of the
hospital in Muong Sing, Laos

Dr. Thomas A. Dooley and his American assistants, Earl Rhine and Dwight Davis, took medical care, American friendship and humanitarian aid to people in Laos. They started a hospital in September 1958 in Muong Sing, Laos. They not only treated people, but also trained them to care for their own people. Dooley, Rhine, and Davis's work called the world's attention to the "needy" of Southeast Asia and was the inspiration for other organizations and individuals to help those less fortunate than themselves.
