Executive Director Search
The
Western History Association will appoint a new Executive Director
effective
July 1, 2006.
The
successful applicant will have achieved:
•
a Ph.D. in history, and hold the rank of a tenured Associate or full
Professor
in a Department of History that grants graduate degrees;
•
a demonstrated record of research and publication in Western history or
closely related subfields;
•
substantial experience in academic, public, or business
administration;
•
ability to work with academics, public historians, amateur enthusiasts,
and others affiliated with a diverse organization of several hundred
members.
The
successful applicant will:
•
manage the office of the Association, and its staff;
•
select the site of annual conventions and negotiate necessary contracts;
•
supervise the Association’s finances, records, and accounts;
•
report periodically to the Council and members, as the Constitution and
By-Laws provide;
•
carry out the duties of an Executive Director, within the purview of
the
President, the Council, and other officers of the Association.
The
successful applicant’s institution will provide support including, but
not necessarily restricted to:
•
a reduced teaching responsibility (50 percent teaching, research, and
committees,
50 percent as Executive Director);
•
equipped office, including computer and other typical support;
•
two half-time graduate-student assistants;
•
a full-time administrative secretary;
•
summer support, shared between the institution and the Association.
The
Association will provide a stipend supplementary to the institutional
salary.

the
position and what goals they would pursue, and the names of three
recommenders. Applications will be received beginning February 15,
2005, and will be
