Mission Statement
The Department of Theatre, Dance and Media Studies strives to produce creative, culturally aware, and highly effective mass media professionals and performing artists within the context of our state’s key urban artistic and mass media center. Our program is student-focused – and takes both theoretical and applied approaches to the discipline.  We are well-known for having an international perspective and strive to provide a conceptual grounding for career flexibility and lifelong learning, as well as opportunities for participation in professional partnerships and community internships.

The wide-ranging creative and research interests of our faculty and students are reflected by our many related extracurricular activities. We host external performance artists and groups and internally produce a wide array of plays, dance concerts, films, multimedia productions, advertising campaigns and video festivals.

Department Overview
The Department of Theatre, Dance and Media Studies encourages both traditional and non-traditional students to expand their creative capabilities through applied experiences and theoretical criticism in the areas of theatre performance, technical theatre, dance, film, television production, film studies, journalism and advertising, as well as history, theory and policy. Active community participation in both production and interaction enriches and enhances our programs – as they educate our students and improve the cultural climate of the largest metropolitan area in the state.
