University Assembly/Student Senate

The University Assembly is the governing body of the campus. The University Assembly consists of 40 faculty members, 13 student members, 3 staff members, and 6 administrators. The student representatives are elected at large each spring by the student body and have an important influence on campus policy. This election is held at the same time as the SGA election. Student terms of office are one academic year and members can run for reelection. The Student Senate is composed of the 13 student members who represent the student body in the University Assembly.

Time Commitment

The University Assembly meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 3:00 PM. In order to fully represent the student body attendance at the University Assembly meetings is required. Only voting members of the Senate and Assembly may vote at their respective meetings. Proxy voting is prohibited on both the Senate and Assembly. The Student Senate meets the second Friday of each month. In addition, the Student Senate may meet the fourth Friday of each month. Members have the opportunity to serve on committees. It is recommended that each member serve on two committees. Committees meet anywhere from once per week to once per semester. Most meet once or twice a month. Only voting members of Senate and Assembly committees may vote at committee meetings. Proxy voting is prohibited on all Senate and Assembly committees. Each student will also be asked to serve at least two office hours per week in the Student Senate office. The total time commitment is approximately 15-20 hours per month.
