Kid
Training for Volunteers, (Training and Videos available)
These videos
are used during training and can be purchased for supplemental training
after the session is complete.
To purchase call 516-7268.
Content: The cognitive, social and language development
of children K-12 is presented. “Kid Training” introduces adults
to what is known about child development. Experts in education, psychology,
youth culture and educational policy then reflect on the impact of community,
school and family involvement for children’s development. Based
upon the last fifty years of research in child development, the training
assumes that those who work with children can be more effective if they
understand how and why children behave as they do.
Materials: Each age level (primary, middle, and high
school) has a 30 minute video. All three videos can be viewed to provide
a complete view of child development from five to eighteen years of age.
Workbooks contain resources for future reading, discussion activities,
and additional information on child development.

have been unable to reach.
Content:
Speed reading, study and survival skills units focus around the testing
needs of K-12 youth. College and university level programs are also available.
Study strategies include how to read and prepare for different test formats,
how to answer different types of questions, how to write essays and study
for standardized and teacher-made tests. Effective use of time is also
included in this training. The text is Speed Reading and Study Skills
– each participant will have their own copy.
