Kim Maricic returned to the UMSL Department of Philosophy
in the Fall of 2003. She received her Ph.D. in Philosophy from Washington University
(1993), where she completed the dissertation,
An Analysis of Probability
Interpretations for the Physical and Biological Sciences. In addition to having
taught from 1993 – 1997 for the Department of Philosophy at UMSL, she has taught
at California Polytechnic State University (Fall 2000). Her expertise is in the
philosophy of science.
Maricic holds a B.S. from the University of Missouri – Columbia and a M.S. degree
in Chemical Engineering from Washington University, where she specialized
in biochemical engineering. Her M.S. research was published in the article,
“Indole Alkaloid Formation by Catharanthus Roseus Cells in a Biofilm Reactor,”
with F. Kargi and B. Ganapathi,
Biotechnology Progress, 6 (1990): 243-248.
She worked as a process engineer for AT&T for two years (monitoring and improving
plasma etching processes in the manufacturing of computer microchips).
Maricic has also been developing a background in computer programming. In addition to
having completed courses in various programming languages, she has worked in both
database programming and MIS support positions.
